Transitions illustrates some of the possible ways to be a mermaid. The work contrasts ingrained stereotypes of the figure of a conventional mermaid –human bust and fish underside– as well as the standardized assimilations of how bodies should be within the binary norm cis male-female.

In some conceptions, to masculinize is to give up beauty. In this photographic triptych, the degradation of the mermaid figure alludes to the popular social habit of "putting people in boxes". In his natural habitat, the artist, characterized as a mermaid, represents his free form of expression, and when transferred to a bathtub, he loses his hair and his cheerful countenance, conditioned to an artificial way of life for a sea creature.
