Assentamento

The series, titled Assentamento, is composed of objects and sculptures that form part of a kind of sacred setting. Assentamento is a Brazilian term, particularly associated with Afro-Brazilian religious practices, referring to the material establishment and grounding of a sacred force or entity. The term has no direct equivalent in English. The pieces evoke—individually or collectively—shapes that recall mythical figures and ritual objects, such as ceremonial vessels and other elements associated with sacred practices.
